This is the largest of the Pike fishes, reaching nearly 6ft and over 60lbs in some cases. Most often referred to as a "Musky", this species is usually found in colder rivers and lakes, in and around the Great Lakes area. Stocking does occur in some areas of the country so its true range goes much further than the Great Lakes area. These fish will eat anything they can catch. They are a fast, ambush predator much like the Northern Pike. Tales of Musky eating full grown geese have circulated among anglers but this is very unlikely.

Musky are powerful fighters when hooked and often give stunning ariel displays as they leap from the water. Many types of bait can be used to catch them. Generally a very large lure is used becuase of the Musky's great size. Much like the Northern Pike, this fish is large and powerful, so care should be taken when fishing for them and handling them.
