Green Sunfish is a hardy species with a wide distribution range in the U.S. This fish is a prolific breeder and is found in small lakes and ponds, often to the point of overpopulation. It nests near the shore and prefers a gravel or muddy bottom site to lay eggs. Most are less than 1lb as adults. Green sunfish are fairly aggressive feeders. Often you can see several of them rush the surface if you drop bait in shallow water near the shore. Their normal diet is insects and small fish.
Fun to catch using light tackle. Baits you might have luck with are small pieces of worm or crickets.
