Black Crappie are found throughout North America in lakes, ponds, and small rivers. Crappie are a member of the sunfish family but have a very distinct look. Adults generally are much larger than most other sunfish and have a slightly turned up mouth and nose. Adults can reach sizes in the range of 5lbs but 2 - 3lb fish are more common.

Crappie are predatory and are a fun game fish. Considered very tastey, they are a very popular pan fish as well.

Fishing with jigs, live minnows, crickets, and almost any type of small lure can work.
